Gloucester Crossing Resource Group:

Working Mission Statement

The mission of the Gloucester Crossing Resource Group is to coordinate community partnerships and resources to promote financial stability and improve the quality of life for the residents of the Gloucester Crossing neighborhood.

The Coalition is committed not only to building housing, but also to coordinating community revitalization through our work to bring opportunity and empowerment to low-income people. The Coalition and the North Shore United Way led the formation of the Gloucester Crossing Resource Group, a new collaborative that also includes Beverly Bootstraps, North Shore
Community Action Programs, YMCA of the North Shore, Health and Education Services,
Catholic Charities Archdiocese of Boston, the North Shore Work Force Investment Board, Strongest Link, St. Vincent de Paul Society, and the Salvation Army.

Together, this group coordinates community supports for low-income residents of the
Gloucester Crossing neighborhood to ensure that every opportunity afforded to the broader Beverly community extends to residents of the Gloucester Crossing neighborhood. This collaborative effort will advance a model that can be replicated as we further our work in other neighborhoods and by other housing and community development organizations in our region.

Inclusionary Zoning:

Due in large part to the advocacy leadership of the Coalition and other concerned citizens in our community, the Beverly City Council in 2007 an important inclusionary zoning ordinance, which requires developers to set aside affordable units in new rental and condominium developments, or to make a significant contribution to an affordable housing charity.

2003 Affordable Housing Conference:

The Coalition presented a regional conference on affordable housing in September 2003. The conference was a tremendous success, bringing together other non-profit organizations, real estate and business professionals, public officials and residents of Essex County.
